Up Close and Personal

If you have invertebrates, I can’t recommend a decent microscope highly enough. Mine has a screen attached so I can see stuff well without bumping my glasses into an eyepiece.

To give you an idea of scale. That dot is a spiderling!

Not only does it allow me to get great shots, but it allows me to see when something is wrong. I never would have noticed the mites without it.

One of my spiderlings had messed up legs. It was probably a mismolt, and I helped it as best I could, but it eventually passed.

I also got some great pictures of the adults, though I had to crank it all the way back to fit them in frame. Here are the ladies in order (Avery, Phidippus audax, Jenna, P. regius, and Lilith, P. morpheus):
